Health and Safety at the Workplace

These qualifications have been developed to ensure that employees are equipped with a basic knowledge of health and safety in their workplace, including the duties under UK health and safety legislation. No former knowledge of health and safety is required and is therefore ideal as part of a company health and safety induction programme. They can also form part of ongoing refresher training designed to improve the health and safety culture in a workplace.

Highfield have designed these courses to suit a diverse group of individuals ranging from those working in large multinationals to those working in small businesses. Learners can also use the qualification as part of relevant courses being taken in schools and colleges.

HABC Level 1 Award in Principles of Health and Safety in the Workplace (QCF)

This regulated qualification focuses on the importance of maintaining health and safety and ensuring that employee actions reduce risks in
the workplace. It is intended for learners working in any workplace environment, including retail, manufacturing, food premises and the care environment. It is also suitable for those who are returning to work or starting work for the first time.

Learners achieving this qualification will gain a sound introduction to all aspects of health and safety including legislation, fire procedures, chemical safety, manual handling and personal protective equipment. It is ideal as an introduction to general health and safety for any environment.

Health and Safety at the Workplace Level 1

Structure

This qualification is made up of one mandatory unit for which learners must successfully complete the assessment. This qualification can be taken as a free standing qualification or as part of a wider programme of training.

Assessment

This qualification is assessed through a 30 minute, 15-question, multiple-choice examination. Successful learners must answer at least 10 out of the 15 questions correctly.

HABC Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace (QCF)

Achievement of this regulated qualification will enable learners to work safely and to recognise and deal with hazards in the workplace. The aim of the qualification is to provide learners with knowledge of the basic health and safety practices essential in the workplace. This includes identifying hazards and risks along with the relevant legislation, and ensures awareness of cost-effective, practical control methods.

This qualification is applicable for any private or public sector working environment and provides employees with an awareness of their own safety, as well as the safety of customers, contractors and members of the public. This qualification is available in both English and Polish.

Health and Safety at the Workplace Level 2

Structure

This qualification is made up of one mandatory unit for which learners must successfully complete the assessment. This qualification can be taken as a free standing qualification or as part of a wider programme of training.

Assessment

This qualification is assessed through a 1 hour, 30-question, multiple-choice examination. Successful learners must answer at least 20 out of the 30 questions correctly.
